In honor of my new release tomorrow–By the Tail–a romance about cat shifters, I’ve decided to take a page from the Discovery Channel and dedicate this week, not to sharks, but to cats. In particular, to panthers. Also knows as cougars, mountain lions, catamounts, and pumas. The pride in my story are the Miami cats, and as such they like to think of themselves as panthers, so that’s the name I’m sticking with this week.
A few interesting facts about panthers:
- They’re the second largest cats in North America
- They can’t roar, but can purr and screech and yowl.
- They have no natural enemies and sit nice and pretty on top of the food chain
- Panther size is smallest at the equator and largest at the poles
- Only females are involved in parenting their young, and they are very protective of their cubs
- They’ve been known to jump 18 feet vertically up the side of a cliff, and broad jump up to 30 feet. Seriously strong hind legs…
- Panthers have the greatest range of any large terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere (from the Canadian Yukon to the Southern Andes in South America)
Come back tomorrow for new release day, and be sure to check back all week for new and informative facts, as well as a contest (one of which is still ongoing) or two.
Hello Marie,
Yesterday, while I was browsing in my Facebook, I saw your post about the panthers. I didn’t have the time to check it further, telling myself I would come back when I have more time. But I am glad I am seeing it in here!
I am in love, (literally), with all animals, and particularly Tigers and Panthers. I learned a lot of things from your post above, (especially the fact that the panthers can’t roar, but can purr and screech and yowl). It is very interesting and I want to thank you for sharing these facts.
And yes indeed, it is a nice introduction for your new release: “By the Tail”–your romance about cat shifters. I am looking forward to it.
Marie, I want to honestly apologize for any mistake I make when I am writing. Although I read 99.9% in English, writing is another thing! 😉 (Although I love writing in English). I am a french canadian.
Congrats to you for your release “By the Tail”, available today!
Best Regards,
Judith
